Beloved Aunts and Uncles
Have you ever wanted to go on a mission trip, but you couldn’t make it for one reason or another? Have you ever thought, “The money raised for a short-term mission trip could be better spent on providing direct relief to an area that sorely needs aid.” Well In the Christmas season of 2012, Beloved's Aunts and Uncles program did just that. Beloved offered people a way to be a part of the work in Kenya—to have Beloved’s ministry become their ministry by becoming an active advocate for our families' needs and becoming a greater part of our Beloved homes.
For the Beloved Aunts and Uncle's program, we asked individuals to partner with us, as "aunts" and "uncles" of our children, to raise funds for our home by raising funds as if they were going on a mission trip. Participants pledged to raise a certain amount and sent out support letters asking for loved ones to help them reach their goal so that the money raised would go towards Beloved's children. We were very blessed to have so many individuals pledge to become a Beloved Aunt or Uncle, helping us to raise over $5,000 in the holiday season.
Recalling the words of Francis Chan: “When you hear about the 140 million orphans in the world … you can be overwhelmed and think, ‘Okay, what am I going to do to change all that?’ The great thing is God hasn’t called you to figure all of that out, but He has called us all to do something.” Our goal was for Beloved Aunts and Uncles to provide one more way for people to help do something to help change the orphan crisis in the world.
