Reflections

Last weekend I ventured to Mexico to see my second home, my second family. For the past 4 years, a group of friends and I have committed to visiting the children that are currently placed in a family home run by Missionary Kim. As we arrived, we were greeted by familiar faces and warm embraces that immediately brought me to tears. As enjoyable as it was getting to play with the kids, I couldn’t help but notice Missionary Kim as he spend time with the kids also. You should all know that Missionary Kim has devoted his life to the people of Mexico for the past 15 years and prior to that has spend 10 years in Brazil. He has since planted three churches and built a disability center and is currently running a rehabilitation project directed for male adults recovering from drugs and alcohol abuse. This man has little to no time to himself and yet the 10 sparing minutes he has, he’s found playing with the kids. Missionary Kim’s passion for the gospel and for these children reminded me of Pastor Stephen who is responsible for our Beloved Rehoboth home in Kenya.

I had the great opportunity of listening to Pastor Stephen share with me a bit about his life and where his passion first began. You could tell that his face was illuminating from the joy he felt when talking about the gospel. He was an encouragement to say the least and to just imagine the daily chores he takes care of when taking care of 18 children cannot be easy. Being able to help serve these two men along with their ministries has really been an eye-opening experience. By God’s grace I’ve been able to travel to Kenya and Mexico for this very purpose; to be encouraged and convicted myself to one day be called to serve in another country to boldly preach the gospel and serve the people in that community. I look forward to revisiting my family both in Kenya and Mexico sometime soon :)
